By using MacroBasics (the "Service"), including the website at macrobasics.app and the iOS app, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Using MacroBasics
MacroBasics is a personal nutrition and macro tracking tool. You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for all activity under your account.
You agree not to:
- Attempt to reverse engineer, scrape, or abuse the Service or its APIs
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Share your account with others or create accounts on behalf of others
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' data
2. Your Data
You own your data. MacroBasics does not claim ownership over your food logs, recipes, or any other content you create. You can export your data at any time from within the app. See our Privacy Policy for details on how we handle your data.
3. AI Features and Nutritional Information
MacroBasics uses AI (Anthropic Claude and OpenAI Whisper) to estimate nutritional content from text and voice descriptions. These estimates are generated automatically and may not be accurate.
The nutritional information provided by MacroBasics is not medical advice. It is provided for general informational purposes only. Do not rely on it to manage a medical condition, eating disorder, or any health-related treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical or dietary guidance.
4. Subscriptions, Free Trials, and Billing
Full access to MacroBasics requires an auto-renewing subscription, MacroBasics Pro, offered on a monthly or annual basis. Pricing is shown in your local currency on the subscription screen inside the app before you purchase, and on the App Store purchase confirmation sheet.
Free trial. New subscribers may be offered a free trial. The length of the trial is stated on the subscription screen before you purchase. A free trial is available only once per subscription group — if you have already used a trial on any MacroBasics plan, you will be charged immediately on purchase, and the app will tell you so before you confirm. Any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited if you purchase a subscription before the trial ends.
Automatic renewal. Unless you cancel, your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price for that period. If you began with a free trial, payment is charged automatically when the trial ends. Subscriptions purchased on iOS are billed to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase, and again at each renewal. Subscriptions purchased on the web are billed to the payment method you provide to our payment processor, Stripe.
Cancellation. You may cancel at any time. To avoid being charged for the next period, you must cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period or before your free trial ends. Cancelling stops future renewals; it does not retroactively refund the current period, and you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
- On iOS: Settings › your name › Subscriptions, or via Manage Subscription in the app's Settings screen.
- On the web: the billing portal linked from the app's Settings screen.
Refunds. Purchases made through the App Store are handled by Apple under its own refund policy; we cannot issue refunds for them directly. Requests can be made at reportaproblem.apple.com. For web subscriptions billed through Stripe, contact us at hello@macrobasics.app.
Price changes. We may change subscription pricing. Any change applies only to billing periods beginning after we notify you, and where required we will ask you to consent to the new price before it takes effect.
5. Service Availability
We aim to keep MacroBasics running reliably, but we make no guarantee of uptime, availability, or uninterrupted access. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time with reasonable notice where possible.
6. Account Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. To request deletion of your account and data, email privacy@macrobasics.app. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without any warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free or that nutritional data will be accurate.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, MacroBasics and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including inaccurate nutritional information. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.
9. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
10. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the applicable federal laws of Canada, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved exclusively in the courts of British Columbia, Canada.
